About the Forum
Estate planning professionals are seeing increased family fights, especially as it relates to older clients with family members pushing a parent to plan the estate as they desire. Attend this multi-disciplinary session to address: sources of ethical rules; who is the client (and who is not); basic conflicts in representing various family members; confidentiality; conflicts of interest; diminished capacity; communication with clients; and attorney competency.
About our Presenter
A. Stephen McDaniel, JD, EPLS, AEP® (Distinguished) is senior partner with Williams McDaniel, PLLC in Memphis. His practice focuses on estate, charitable and business continuation planning, and probate and trust administration.
Mr. McDaniel was one of the first attorneys in Tennessee to be awarded the Estate Planning Law Specialist (EPLS) certification, a national board certification which is accredited by the American Bar Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and was inducted into the NAEPC Estate Planning Hall of Fame® in 2020. He is also a member of the Memphis Estate Planning Council, Memphis Bar Association, and the Tennessee Bar Association
Mr. McDaniel was named as one of the top 100 estate planning attorneys in the country by Worth Magazine and he is included in the current edition of the Best Lawyers in America. In addition, he lectures across the country, is a co-author of A Grandparent’s Guide to Gifted Children published in 2004, a contributor to Leimberg Information Services, Inc. (LISI) newsletters and has been quoted in Kiplinger’s Personal Finance and USA Today.
McDaniel is a graduate of the University of Memphis (BBA 1968) and the University of Memphis School of Law (JD 1973) and is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and Missouri.
