This often misquoted (and sometimes debated) anecdote originated around the time “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” was being filmed and when Fred Astaire forgot that Ginger Rogers would be wearing high heels. As a result of this forgetfulness, and while trying to achieve graceful jump/turn, Ginger nearly lost her balance.   Years later, a friend sent Ginger Rogers a cartoon by Bob Thaves, which shows the cartoon characters Frank and Ernest gazing at a billboard announcing a Fred Astaire film festival. The caption reads: 'Sure he was great, but don’t forget that Ginger Rogers did everything he did…backwards and in high heels.’

These days it can feel as if association managers are doing everything they used to do, but now backwards and in those same, but sometimes less graceful, high heels of Ginger Rogers.

Attend this roundtable to meet new colleagues within the NAEPC network, to create meaningful and supportive connections, to discuss ways that we have found our own grace in the midst of a changing world, and to brainstorm how we can tackle tough and/or sticky situations, relationships, or conversations with ease.
